What gives? Witness
this american IT website NEW
ARCHITECT. This is the first time I have seen 'IT architects'
daring to drop the "IT". Does this mean that we plain
old building architects will have to fight for our right to the
word 'architect' as this vitamin D deficient mob attempt to cash
in on our cachet?
This IT invasion is already causing confusion for people trying
to use internet search engines, as words like plan, build, design
and the like have been swiped by a quite different industry. The
public understanding of the meaning of architecture will steadily
erode from here on in without a gutsy response from the institutes.
As these people get paid about three times as much as us improverished
old-style architects, they ought to be able to think up a new name
for themselves, rather than nick ours. Suggestions please.
Instances of new and weird usages of the word "architect"
will be added to this page as they are found.
Havoc
for the search engines:
I have been a Web Techniques fan since 1998. Now you're
changing the name to New Architect
. It doesn't grab me, but I imagine it will grow on me. I
truly feel the need in this industry to learn more solid architecting.
And that includes both information architecture
and database architecture.
A LETTER TO NEW ARCHITECT'S EDITOR FEBRUARY 2002
In talking with readers and vendors, it was clear that the
Internet had evolved to the point where people were thinking
about it in terms of its architecture.
As you mentioned, topics like information architecture,
database architecture,
and even network architecture
are now standard concerns for people who plan
and build applications.

ARCHITECT'S RESPONSE FEBRUARY 2002
I
beg your pardon:
WestpacTrust's re-architected
New Zealand software applications will become, in a sense,
pilots from a group perspective...

Google's testing a snappy new glossary engine. So of course I had to try
the "A" word and I'm sad to say architecture as we know it doesn't
rate a mention : <<The term architecture
can refer to either hardware or software, or to a combination of hardware
and software>> GOOGLE
