KEITH HARING = HERITAGE

05.02.03     City of Yarra, in Melbourne, announced late last year that a 1980s Keith Haring mural, covering the side of the Collingwood Technical School in Johnston Street, has been put forward for inclusion on the Heritage Register. The rapidly fading mural had documentation prepared for it by art historians Ted Gotte and Lisa Sullivan:

<<The Collingwood Technical School mural... stands as the sole remaining signifier of a brief international visit by an artist of global renown, that was to profoundly affect the future course of Australian art.>>

Not sure about the last bit, but even if the heritage registration fails, the mural will remain protected by local paint controls.
